Sorry Age, JR is right... WoW has something people want, CONTENT and that's why they and I sometimes go and play it... (until the damned grind pushes me away again)

Yes indeed: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/blizzard-wizard
(excellent previous post on Anet's silence about GW2, hope their strategy works)

The problem with a developer keeping their head down completely to secretly work away at making the next amazing thing is that expectations from their project continue to grow alongside their silence/mystery, and they often end up scrapping parts of the design and beginning a continual process of do-overs until they reach their perfect satisfaction (never). If A-net had good management, I might have faith in their ability to pull it off, but I'll just say I haven't been impressed by that side of their company.

Ouch, that is kind of far away from now. Hopefully they can keep the people satisfied up till the release.

ArenaNet has always had fantastic management, which is not to say they haven't lacked in other areas...

We could of been given more content in the current game.I am wondering how many WoW cutomers are leaving to go play Perfect World which is free? You just have to dl the client and set up an account and go and play.

wait... you mean this?:

this surely can't compete with WoW on any serious level...

Not to mention that this ISN'T a new business model... it doesn't have a sub because the business model is based on the player buying ingame currency with real money to buy ingame items that aren't available without them ingame

Interesting, so although they said no GW2 info was released because they planned on a "big splash" the real reason was they dont have much done.

Good time to take Blizzard up on that trial WoW offer. Tired of NCSoft, Anet, and GW.

Didn't WoW prove that people like ridiculous, ugly, low-poly cartoons?

I dunno, on a good system, the graphics are really good on WoW and it especially has some great effects in the game...

Personally though, I just don't like the WoW art style

i think im a little late to say this seeing as it looks like this topic has been derailed but on the topic of guild wars 2 i think its Much more of a disappointment and a let down of the lack of info we have right now then for them to say something and then have to go back on what they originally said. if they fallow the example of blizzard and how they are dealing with starcraft2 which is one of complete openness i think it would be much better for anet and it would put a lot of the vaporware stuff to rest. my main point about starcraft 2 is that if you look back to some of the first Pc Gamers that came out about it when it was first announced and the units they have in it, a lot of them are gone because of game balance. and there might be people who are disappointed at that but i think as a hole people want there games balanced then have to sit and wait for patches. OH WAIT WHAT I FORGOT WHAT GAME I AM TALKING ABOUT....

But JR, the reason other MMOs push so aggressively to be on the top of the accounts count is because they have monthly fees.

GW doesn't care about active subscribers, since its a one and done purchase. GW is by no measure a failure. Its not as popular as WoW, but that doesn't mean its a failure.

Default Release Something. Anything!

Anet. As your loyal (generically and sarcastically speaking) fans, we have bought your product with our currencies. We expect outstanding results from you. You are improving by your quarterly updates which add new content to skills and balances them. We also like new items- tonics, summoning stones, etc. But, however, your promise of a new game cannot be fulfilled easily by releasing content that reveals absolutely nothing about an upcoming game- Granted these updates are keeping some people playing.
An idea, would to be to release another expansion to bridge the gap of GW1 and GW2 and keep players on the game.

For example, Halo was released in 2001. Many years later Halo 2 was released. People knew Halo 2 was coming and Bungie announced it as well. They produced the game and sporadically RELEASED content.
Why this is not being done is beyond any rational thought...

But you are releasing a new game! A separate game! It is irrelevant to give bonuses in GW1 with absolutely no info on official releases of GW2. Last year you announced GW2 with official items and updates, but now people are losing faith in you.

Show your fanbase that you actively listen to them and release absolutely ANYTHING. It doesnt have to go and change the world or GW1/2. Just something to show your development in GW2 w/o spoiling it, or giving it away to rival companies.

This can include lore, storyline, new monsters, characters, screenshots, concept art, weapon art, new weapon ideas, new trailers, or simply not releasing anything at all, save COMMUNICATING WITH YOUR FANBASE. If you at least had a person post more stuff than Regina, your PR "superstar", you might keep a larger fanbase. And seriously, your official PR manager only talks to the fanbase a FEW times a month?

To better fulfill communication, you should take OFFICIAL surveys and gather information from the players and relay that info back so WE, the consumer know what statistics are incorporated. This lack of consumer/producer communication will not benefit you or us.
Ask yourselves if you are really doing what you should be.

Um honestly, just because some people might be getting bored with GW1 doesn't mean they won't come running back when they find out info on GW2, even though it might be in a year. If you are getting bored with GW1, go find a different game or do something else that's, nothing more too it.

It's all just a business strategy. Anet wants to develop a game that we'll all like and also obtain the player base to bring in some revenue. Just wait for info to come out and there wont be a problem. Patience is a virtue. Stop complaining.

You know what, i have to ask this for everyone who is complaining about no new content. Have you visited the Guild Wars 2 wiki page? have you throughly been through there reading the little tid bit of information that pours into. How many people here can say they know what the human base is for Guild Wars 2? I can, its called Divinity Reach. How many can say they have seen the concept art for it? I can, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Imag...ch_concept.jpg. Did you know that Slyvari capital is Ronan's Refuge?

Clearly people dont use the resources that have been provided for us.

Cool story bro. A drop from 800k to 300k players is still not a sign of a healthy game. Games aren't sports cars, don't make bad comparisons.

ArenaNet has this habit of changing names and completely scrapping concept art, so... Yeah. A few letters and paintings on the wiki doesn't mean anything. They need to either release real information and content, or stop talking about it entirely (which I would personally prefer them to do). Saying "yeah it's great guys we've got so much" and not saying anything about what they actually have is just dangling a carrot in front of a starving horse.

I think this is the case too, and I'm really wondering what it is. While it is a fair amount of work to upgrade the engine for jumping/Z axis, make a persistent world, add an auction house, server vs server pvp, and update the graphics engine and art, I don't think that is 4 entire years of work.

I'm betting on there being something pretty big and crazy, that hasn't been done in an MMO before, and there is no way they are going to talk about it any time soon.

I almost suspect that they don't...

Seriously though, saying the lack of information now will hurt GW2's future is silly. It's a solid marketing plan, and it avoids stepping on Aion's toes. Their current plan will ensure that they get the highest amount of marketing in the most places that they can when GW2 comes out, and that's when it really matters. ArenaNet was founded by ex Blizzard employees, and they know what they're doing. It was said earlier that no one thinks the lack of Starcraft 1 updates over the past years will harm Starcraft 2's sales.
